A certified pre-owned Toyota and a used vehicle are very different. Both have had previous owners, but a CPO Toyota must meet Toyota’s high standard of excellence. We’re going to tell you more about the Toyota CPO program.
Understanding the Certified Pre-Owned Toyota Program
CPO Classification
There are two CPO categories: Gold and Silver. A Gold classification means the vehicle is six years old or less and has 85,000 miles or fewer on the odometer. A Silver classification means the vehicle is between six and ten years old and has between 85,000 and 125,000 miles on the odometer.
Vehicle Checklist
Gold and Silver CPOs must pass stringent quality requirements to ensure they’re in perfect working condition. A Toyota-trained technician performs a 160-point inspection of the vehicle. This in-depth examination involves checking the exterior and interior detailing and condition. The underside of the vehicle is also thoroughly inspected for damage or rust.
The engine, transmission, steering, electrical system, brakes, and other vital systems are all tested. After the examination is complete, the technician will road test the vehicle under real-world conditions to ensure all systems are working perfectly. If any work is required to bring the vehicle up to the required standard, it will be performed by Toyota-trained technicians using Toyota-approved replacement parts.
CARFAX Report
All CPO vehicles are issued with a CARFAX report. CARFAX uses information from DMV databases to provide a complete and accurate report on the vehicle’s history. This report includes the number of previous owners, its sales history, service and maintenance records, registration details, and information on any previous accidents and its title history.
CARFAX also offers a buyback guarantee. If their report fails to disclose a title brand issued by the DMV, they will buy your vehicle at the price you paid for it. A branded title identifies a serious problem, like previous fire or flood damage, the vehicle was salvaged, or the odometer reading is incorrect. The buyback guarantee applies for one year from purchase.
Warranty Protection
All Gold CPOs are covered by warranty. The Limited Comprehensive Warranty protects all systems and components against the unlikely event of any issue with the vehicle and applies for one year or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. The Limited Powertrain Warranty protects the engine, transmission, and drive axle for seven years or 100,000 miles from the date of first registration.
Silver CPO vehicles are covered by a Limited Powertrain Warranty that applies for one year or 12,000 miles.
Roadside Assistance
Gold and Silver CPOs have complementary 24/7/365 roadside assistance. This applies for seven years or 100,000 miles for a Gold CPO and one year or 12,000 miles for a Silver CPO.
